The Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Organizes a Delegation of Diplomatic Envoys from Latin American and Caribbean Countries to China to Visit Xinjiang

From September 1 to 4, 2026, the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a delegation of diplomatic envoys from Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries to China to visit Xinjiang. Ambassadors and diplomats from 20 countries, including Dominica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Ecuador, Jamaica, Argentina, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Uruguay and Suriname, participated in the visit. Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi accompanied the delegation.

Secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Chen Xiaojiang and Chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Erkin Tuniyaz met with the delegation and noted that under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee, and under the sound guidance of the CPC Guidelines for Governing Xinjiang in the New Era, Xinjiang has made major achievements in economic and social development that have attracted worldwide attention. Xinjiang attaches great importance to developing friendly sub-national relations with LAC countries, and stands ready to actively expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields and make new contributions to the joint building of a China-LAC community with a shared future.

During the visit, the delegation visited Urumqi, Kashgar and Changji, and toured the themed exhibition in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, “Counter-terrorism and De-radicalization in Xinjiang Exhibition”, Memorial Hall for the Conservation and Comprehensive Management of Kashi’s Old City, the Kashgar Area of China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Kashi University, Donghu residential community in Kashgar, China’s Xinjiang Ethnic Musical Instrument Village, the Id Kah Mosque, as well as agricultural and science and technology enterprises. The diplomatic envoys spoke highly of the enormous achievements made under the leadership of the CPC in Xinjiang’s development and revitalization, ethnic unity, religious harmony, improvement of people’s livelihoods, and cultural heritage preservation and protection. They expressed their readiness to deepen exchanges and cooperation between LAC countries and Xinjiang at the sub-national level, and contribute to the sustained development of LAC-China relations.
